Cheese Curds

Year-round

Cooking Tips

  • Best eaten straight from the bag to hear the delightful squeak!
  • You can also melt cheese curds onto veggies, burgers, or batterfry like you get in the pubs.

Details

A staple in Wisconsin refrigerators, supper clubs and tourist locations! Good cheese curds will have a slightly salty taste and squeak against your teeth, which shows they’re very fresh. They come in many different flavors from garlic and dill or Southwest flavored, but the most common are the traditional white or orange (colored with annatto, a flavorless coloring). Since cheese curds are not aged, their flavor varies greatly by the cheesemaker, the season, as well as with each batch.

Nutrition: Like all dairy, curds are good source of calcium and protein. They are a high calorie and high fat food, however, so they’re best savored as a snack.
