Details

Like many other foods and flowers claiming a month in their names, Wisconsin juneberries actually come ripe in July. Resembling blueberries, juneberries are actually considered a “pome” fruit—meaning they are more closely related to apples than berries. Suited well to growth in colder environments, juneberries have primarily been foraged. Within the last five years, however, some producers have been looking for ways to develop commercially viable stocks. When buying, avoid berries that are torn, bruised, or moldy.

Nutrition: Juneberries are a great source of dietary fiber and antioxidants.
