Details
Trout falls into the same family as salmon and it is similarly an oily fish. Brook and brown trout are common in the Driftless Region due to our clear, clean, shallow streams. Trout fishing season in our region is from May to September; visit the Wisconsin DNR Fishing Season page for more information about other regions of the state. Our recipe section has a number of excellent recipes for fresh and smoked trout and for sauces that go well with this fish.
Nutrition: Since it is an oily fish, it contains high amounts of beneficial omega-3 fatty acids, which are deficient in most Americans’ diets. Omega-3s help support proper brain function.
