Friends! We have the most exciting news. Not only is the Spring Issue now available all over Madison and across the Driftless, we've also planned a little event to celebrate the new issue release! Next Saturday, March 13th at 5pm. we'll be hosting a virtual toast before launching into an Indigenous Cooking Demo with Chef Elena Terry of Wild Bearies.
The event is free and open to all, but if you want to eat along with Chef Elena, you can purchase a meal kit through Pasture and Plenty. The menu is seriously scrumptious.
~ Wild Bearies Salad with Maple Cranberry Vinaigrette (kit includes all components ready to be tossed together)
~ Indigi-shepherd’s Pie with Sweet potato & Bison (comes ready to bake)
~ Blue Corn Pudding with Roasted Pumpkin & Maple-Walnut Frosting (comes ready to enjoy)
Chef Elena Terry's organization, Wild Bearies, is an educational community outreach nonprofit that strives to bring ancestral foods to communities in a nurturing and nourishing way. With goals of building stronger tribal communities through food, they are also a mentorship program. They work with our ingredients from seed to table, while promoting traditional food systems and farming techniques.
The meal features producers from the American Indian Food Program, and a portion of event proceeds go to supporting Wild Bearies and the work they do in our community.
American Indian Foods (AIF) is a program of the Intertribal Agriculture Council that began in 1998 under contract with the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service. The partnership was developed as a platform for American Indian food businesses to showcase their products and share tribal cultures with the world.
