This BBQ sauce is great on any burger, ribs, or slathered on chicken. It also is an excellent replacement for steak sauce.

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup butter
  • ½ cup onion, minced (about 1 medium onion)
  • 5 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup bourbon
  • ½ cup fresh tomatoes, diced
  • 1 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 6 tbsp. maple syrup
  • 3 tbsp. tamari
  • ¼ tsp. chipotle powder
  • ½ tsp. black pepper

Directions

  1. In a large frying pan, sauté minced onion and garlic in butter for 5 minutes or until the onions are translucent.
  2. Add the remaining ingredients to the saucepan and bring to a boil. Simmer the sauce on low, stirring occasionally, for 20-30 minutes or until reduced to less than half the original volume.
  3. Remove the sauce from heat and let cool for 10 minutes. Add the reduced sauce to a food processor and blend until smooth. Cool sauce in the fridge before serving.
