Yogurt
Year-round
Cooking Tips
- Use yogurt in a homemade tzatziki sauce to accompany Greek dishes such as gyros and grilled vegetables.
- Make a rockin' traveling breakfast from any flavor yogurt, granola, dried fruit such as cranberries, raisins or apricots, and a dollop of almond butter. Mix well and enjoy.
- Substitute plain Greek yogurt for mayonnaise in any mayo-based salad for a protein boost.
Details
Visit the Dane County Farmers Market in summer to find many local dairies who make their own yogurt from cow, sheep or goat’s milk. These yogurts will have a much different flavor from store-bought yogurts—and that’s a good thing. Homemade yogurt not only tastes better, it has fewer additives, there’s less packaging (e.g.: quart containers vs. single serving cups), and it supports your local farmers.
Nutrition: Yogurt is a good source of calcium, protein and beneficial bacterial cultures that aid in digestion.
