What’s in season this month? What should I do with that fennel I bought at the farmers market? Who are the people who grow my food? If you’ve ever wished for an every-day, at-your-fingertips guide to sustainable eating, your wish has just come true. Madison authors Joan Peterson and Terese Allen have penned the 2012 Wisconsin Local Foods Engagement Calendar, a unique resource for Wisconsin eaters.
The calendar, which may also be used as a culinary journal, contains monthly lists of seasonal ingredients; shopping, storage and preparation guides; prize-winning recipes; interviews with market vendors; full-color photos; and more. The theme of the first annual calendar is regional farmers markets of southern Wisconsin.
Scheduled for publication by Ginkgo Press later this summer, the calendar will be available at many area stores and local food events. Pre-publication orders may be placed at www.wisconsinlocalfoodscalendar.com. All profits from the book benefit REAP Food Group’s food and sustainability programs.
